Title : "φ-FEM: a finite element method with immersed boundaries on domains defined by a level-set function" .

Abstract: Classical finite element methods use meshes that coincide with the boundaries and interfaces of the domain on which we perform numerical simulation. Depending on the type of mesh elements used or when the geometry of the domain is too complex, an alternative method consists in performing calculations on a mesh that does not coincide with the boundaries and interfaces of the domain. φ-FEM belongs to this class of techniques and has the particularity to take into account external forces using a "level-set" function that vanishes at the boundaries. In this talk, I will first recall the "classical" finite element method and which geometrical constraints must be satisfied by the meshes. I will then present the different methods at the previous immersed boundaries, their advantages and disadvantages. Finally, I will introduce φ-FEM, which scientific locks this method allows to lift and in which framework it has been developed for the moment. I will finish with some numerical simulations.
